Sand Storm Productions

Thanks to everyone for making The Sand Storm: Stories from the Front such a success.  The show was first produced at Gardner Stages, a small basement theater in Hollywood, CA for a showcase run in the Fall of 2004.  Since then it was produced for an event at The Actors’ Gang and opened in March 2005 at The Elephant Asylum Theater on Theater Row in Hollywood, CA where it was extended twice and garnered national media attention.  After a successful run in August and September of 2005 Sand Storm concluded its East Coast Premiere at MetroStage in our Nation’s Capitol

The cities of Denver, CO and Portland, ME were next for The Sand Storm which opened at The Theatre on Broadway in Denver on May 4, 2006 and ran through June 9, 2006 and was part of The Winter Harbor Theatre Company’s Letters to Baghdad production in Portland, ME in late June of 2006.  Reviews were overwhelmingly positive out of Denver.  The Denver Post says The Sand Storm is “real, down-and-dirty combat” and that it “offers 10 chilling, first-hand, true stories from Iraq told without apology or regret”, while Westword wrote one of the most spot-on reviews to date.  View it online @ Westword Review.  The Portland Press Herald had this to say, Their performances are vivid. Huze, who served in the Marine Corp from 2001-2005, performs vignettes from his play "The Sand Storm," based on his experiences in Iraq. The imagery is both chilling and heartwarming as he describes the brutal hatred of an enemy soldier in one piece and the overwhelming generosity of the Iraqi people in another.”  Most recently, the piece was part of the Fall season @ the Los Angeles Theatre Company.  It is currently being translated to German for its European debut in May of 2007.

Amidst all of the controversy surrounding the war and occupation in Iraq, there is a story that remains untold.  We are bombarded with accusations and rebuttals, the lack of weapons of mass destruction, and the truth behind our going to war.  But the story of the troops in Iraq has been lost in the storm.  Until now.

The Sand Storm: Stories from the Front is based on the war as experienced by the playwright, a U.S. Marine with 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (2D LAR).  2D LAR fought from Nasirya to Tikrit and many places in between.  Now these stories can be heard.  First hand accounts of the war, related in ten chilling monologues, expose the rage, honor, courage, commitment, doubt, fear, and remorse experienced by the men who bear the burden of the decisions made by the politicians.

These are their stories.  These are their voices.  It is time they were told.

The Sand Storm: Stories From the Front

Dedicated to all the troops who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, especially those who could not return.  Also to the Iraqi civilians who lost their lives in a war in which they did not choose to participate.
